What's new in 2021 CPI data?

With the release of January 2021 CPI data on February 17, 2021, the computer equipment, software and supplies index was updated with an enhanced methodology and new data sources. This index represents 0.42% of the 2017 CPI basket and is part of the recreation, education and reading component.

When is the Canadian Consumer Price Index (CPI) released?

CPI data are published at various levels of geography including Canada, the ten provinces, Whitehorse, Yellowknife and Iqaluit, and select cities. When will Statistics Canada update the CPI basket?

Going forward, Statistics Canada will move towards annual weight updates based on the most recently available household expenditure data. Improvements to the adjusted price index 4 are also underway, with the next publication planned for the end of 2021. This will be the first CPI basket update based on national HFCE data.

When is CPI set to 100?
